In 2006 the GABS bird show was hosted by the Rocky Mountain Society of Aviculture in Denver Colorado. It was the first and only time I showed some of my birds, two to be exact, a nice Yellow Headed Gouldian cock and my best German Roller weanling. The whole show was an awesome experience, from the multitude of venders to the beautiful and varied species of birds to show and sell. We saw finches and softbills I had not even known existed plus many species of parrots, cockatiels, and budgies. I enjoyed meeting other fanciers and breeders who all took great pride in their birds. My only regret is I did not have someone to run my vender station while the judging was in progress so I missed the thrill of watching my birds place. However when I did get back to gather up my little guys I was overwhelmed to discover their cages covered with ribbons. Being a novice I hadn’t expected to place at all and both my birds getting best in section and best in division was unreal! And I got a best novice ribbon to boot. “Oh my gosh I can’t believe it.”.. is all I could say as I gathered up my birds and all their ribbons and plaques! Unfortunately I could not stay for the second day so I do not know how they would have faired overall.
